Effect of foliar spraying of organic and inorganic selenium fertilizers during different growth stages on selenium accumulation and speciation in rice

Abstract Aims Most crops are supplemented with selenium (Se) through the exogenous addition of inorganic Se fertilizer. There is a lack in-depth research on organic fertilizers. Meanwhile, dosage range between human deficiency and toxicity narrow, so content agricultural products needs to be controlled within reasonable interval. Methods accumulation speciation in rice were analyzed compared during three different growth stages (late tillering stage, initiate heading full stage) using fertilizers: selenite, fermented Se, potassium selenocyanoacetate (Se-AAF) via foliar application. Results The sprayed fertilizer was relatively safe met supplement requirement sodium which too high dose. percentage protein brown found similar all highest 91.57% grain at stage by spraying Se-AAF. main species selenomethionine (SeMet), reached 80% total Se. Se-methyl selenocysteine(SeMeCys) only quality showed that fertilizers increased consistency gelatinization. Conclusions Appropriately delaying time selecting as source can help produce green selenium-rich rice.
